Sustainability is more than just solar panels. It means responsibly using our natural resources, such as shorelines, wetlands, and forests, and considering our impact on the environment in everything we do.
Because every day is Earth Day, learn more at https://conservation.ky/.

Biodiversity ensures that the native plants and animals of the Cayman Islands thrive in their natural environment. This is not only a global sustainability goal but also integral to maintaining healthy ecosystems and habitats. That’s why it’s so important to do everything we can to preserve our lands and seas in their healthy natural state.

Are you clearing some land for future development? Consider keeping the native vegetation. It can provide privacy, a noise buffer, green space, and precious shade, which will keep cooling costs down. Incorporating the natural environment into our designs is one way we can develop responsibly and sustainably.

If you’re landscaping, consider keeping native vegetation. It’s low maintenance, low cost, and requires less irrigation. It also helps with drainage. Everyone’s responsibility is to ensure our islands develop sustainably because every day is Earth Day.

Are you clearing some land for future development? Consider keeping the native vegetation. It can remain a habitat for endemic wildlife such as our native lizards, birds, and butterflies. Let’s do our part to ensure the native plants and animals of the Cayman Islands thrive in the natural environment.

Studies show that time spent in nature is associated with lower levels of anxiety and an increase in feelings of joy, calmness, and clarity. More amazing than the mental health benefits are the physical ones: improved brain activity, creativity, blood pressure, physical activity, and sleep levels. Make time for nature in your life. Go green for your mental and physical health.

Many animals kept as pets in other countries pose severe threats to our delicate island ecosystems. For example, exotic snakes, ferrets and monk parakeets may not be imported into the Cayman Islands.  If you own an exotic pet, immediately contact the Department of Environment to register it and help us protect Cayman’s unique plants, animals and habitats.
