Lower utility costs, make your home more comfortable and reduce your impact on the environment all at once? You bet!
On average, propane costs less than half as much per BTU as electricity and propane gas appliances cost 30 to 60 percent less per hour of operation than do electrical appliances.
By relying on propane for various applications in your home, power for your appliances, you’re lessening your dependence on the electric grid in the event of an electric power outage. With propane you can still have hot water, electric by generator and hot food during outages even in the worst of weather conditions.
Over 90 percent of the propane used in America and the Caribbean is made in the U.S., reducing the dependence on foreign oil, thus keeping propane pricing moderate.
With propane you get more hot water from your tanked or tankless water heater because it recovers 2½ times faster than an electric one, and it costs about 30 percent less to operate. You can reheat a whole tankful of water in just 16 minutes with propane, compared to an hour with electricity!
Convenient and portable, propane is an energy source that can be used virtually anywhere, from the country to the city.
Environmentally Friendly
Propane creates far less pollution than the power plants supplying you with electricity, so you help protect the environment by providing cleaner, more breathable air. It is also insoluble in water so it presents no risk to soil and ground water supplies.
On a U.S. nationwide average, propane costs less than electricity on a per-BTU basis. According to a U.S. Department of Energy study, electricity is nearly twice as costly as propane, and in Cayman, electricity is three times more expensive than propane. This means it could cost you over twice as much to operate your water heater, clothes dryer, or range with electricity than with propane from Clean Gas.
Homes supplied with propane have a better resale value and rent faster; on average, cost less to run than homes with all-electric appliances. Homeowners selling or trying to rent their homes realize sales twice as fast, and property owners have on average longer renters because of the significant savings in using propane appliance such as, propane dryers, propane ranges, water heaters, and generators.
For example, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that propane water heaters save at least $175 annually compared to electric water heaters and heat 2½ times the water with the same amount of energy. With the advent of the new combined heat and power units (CHP), propane can save you money by heating water and creating more efficient electricity at the same time.
Call Clean Gas to learn about the benefits of using propane compared to electric in terms of cost, production, emissions and overall comfort.
Propane water heaters provide more hot water than electric water heaters because they recover 2 ½ times faster and they cost about 30% less to operate. Also, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) estimates that propane water heaters save at least $175 annually compared to electric water heaters (All savings noted are U.S., savings are substantially more using Cayman data).
The pollution created from burning propane is far less than that created by the diesel power plants currently supplying you with electricity, so you help protect the environment by contributing to cleaner, more breathable air.
Propane gas can be used for aesthetic lighting for appliances such as, tiki torches, fire pits, and accent lighting all the while using less energy than the electrical counter parts.
Cooking
Most cooks and professional chefs prefer cooking with gas. A new propane cooktop or range costs one-third less than cooking with an electric range, delivers faster cooking times, more accurate cooking temperature and distributes heat more evenly.
Propane is sometimes referred to as liquefied petroleum gas, LP gas, or LPG. It is produced from either natural gas processing or crude oil refining. About 90 percent of our propane is produced in America from natural gas, making it a stable, domestic energy source. It is nontoxic, colorless and virtually odorless – but, for your protection, odor is added so it can be easily detected when necessary. The chemical odorant that is added is called ethyl mercaptan, which has a strong smell similar to rotten eggs.
Propane is an environmentally responsible fuel. It is much cleaner than home heating oil, kerosene, or electricity. It is also up to 99 percent efficient. Coal and diesel burning, electric power plants emit twice as much carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as propane, at a 28 percent efficiency rate. Propane is a valuable alternative to electricity and significantly reduces emission of greenhouse gases.
Compact and easy to transport, Clean Gas can deliver propane to the most remote areas Cayman, as well as local neighborhoods.
Propane has a narrow range of flammability. The propane/air mix must contain 2.2 to 9.6 percent propane vapor to ignite. Any less than 2.2 percent and the fuel to air mixture become too lean to burn. Any more than 9.6 percent and the fuel to air mixture become too rich to burn.
Propane will not ignite when combined with air unless the source of ignition reaches at least 940°F. In contrast, gasoline will ignite when the source of ignition reaches 430° to 500°F.
Propane is released as a vapor from a pressurized container. Propane is stored as a liquid in its tank under pressure until needed. In the unlikely event that liquid propane leaks, it will vaporize and dissipate into the air quickly.
