“This is the sweet spot in time. As never before, and maybe never again, there is a chance to protect the natural systems that keep us alive.” – Dr. Sylvia Earle
At CCMI, we find ourselves not only in the sweet spot of time, but also in a particularly sweet spot of the sea. The reefs and environmental conditions around Little Cayman are among the most vibrant in the world. Research being conducted by CCMI at our Little Cayman Research Center could hold the key to the survival of coral reefs in the Caribbean, and potentially worldwide. Our education programs introduce young people of all ages to the natural wonders of the world’s oceans, creating a generation of ocean ambassadors and inspiring lifelong passion for marine conservation and sustainability.
Founded in 1998, the Central Caribbean Marine Institute (CCMI) works to sustain marine diversity for future generations through research, education, outreach and conservation. CCMI is a non-profit organization incorporated as a US 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (ID# 22-3609293), a UK charity (# 1104009) and a Cayman Islands charity.
